What Does a Remote Freight Agent Do?

Freight agents monitor schedules and manage shipments on behalf of their clients. Most shippers do not have the time to find and monitor hauling companies, so freight agents manage this work on their behalf. Instead of working in a typical office, freight agents complete their job duties remotely, either from home or another location outside of the office with internet connectivity.

As a freight agent, you arrange appointments with transportation agents, help negotiate shipping rates, and follow the progress of the shipment. You keep your clients informed of where the load is and the estimated time of delivery so that they know when to expect their goods.

Excellent negotiating skills are profitable in this role; a freight agent tries to generate a spread, which is the difference between what the client is willing to pay for shipping the product and the actual negotiated cost of shipping. Remote freight agents often get to keep a bigger spread because of the extremely low overhead.

Meet The Coach

Hi, my name is Anthony Emerson and I am the founder of PFS and a Customer Service Professional of 10+ years operating in Florida and the west coast. When I learned about the freight industry I realized that my experience could help solve a lot of the problems logistic personnel go through. Amongst other skillsets, I have first hand experience working in the final mile as the end customer along with, carriers, and shippers who experience the challenges logistics delivers everyday. Due to the amount of untimely deliveries, lack of communication, and all other obstacles, I decided to learn how the supply chain operates and leveraged my expertise of customer service into a full service brokerage. Powertrain Freight Solutions, LLC, not only supports our customers shipping needs, but also supports the industry by training and developing Brokers and Agents with an intentional focus on customer service.

When I created this company I didn’t want to be just another Broker. I wanted to become a solution specialist for Owner Operators, Fleet Owners, Shippers, and Brokers alike. My goal is to provide added value to those I work with which is why I founded this company on three principles: Integrity, Efficiency, & Solutions.
